2018 NL Winter Games Coaching Position

The 2018 Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games will be taking place this March 10-18 in Deer Lake and we are pleased that Table Tennis is once again a participating sport. The NLTTA is currently seeking individuals who are interested in serving as Regional Coaches in each of the 8 Winter Games Regions (St. John’s North, Mount Pearl South, Avalon, Eastern, Central, Western, Labrador and the Host region).

Responsibilities of Regional Coaches include, but are not limited to:


- Selecting a Regional Team by means of a regional qualifying tournament by January 31, 2018


- Assisting in selection of a Team Manager of the opposite gender of the coach


- Developing and implementing a training plan for the selected team


- Along with the manager, assist in team registration as well as communicating relevant information between players, the NLTTA, Sport NL and the Games Organizing committee.


To be considered for a position as a Regional Coach, candidates must be at least 19 years of age by January 1, 2018 and must submit a Police Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check. Candidates should also have completed the NCCP Introduction to Competition course in Table Tennis. If an individual is interested in applying but has not completed this course, they may still apply as the NLTTA hopes to offer this course again this year prior to the NL Games.


Interested individuals should email [email protected] by September 25, 2017 expressing their interest and outlining their qualifications as well as indicating which region they wish to coach.

2017 Team Newfoundland and Labrador

With the conclusion of the NLTTAs 2016-17 tournament schedule, the NLTTA has selected members of this years provincial team who are eligible to represent the province at the upcoming Atlantic Table Tennis Championships in Prince Edward Island in May.  This years team selection was done with the use of our new selection criteria which saw players accumulate points at NLTTA events throughout the year.  Complete selection criteria can be found here.  Members of this years team include:  Brianna Warren (Female U-18), Sarah Warren (Female U-18), Karlee Warren (Female U-18), Ty Winsor (Male U-18), Michael Hiscock (Male U-18), Joshua Waterman (Male U-18), Michelle Downey (Senior Female), Elahe Shekari (Senior Female), Zsuzsanna Magyarosi (Senior Female), Nick Hiscock (Senior Male), Jerry Hiscock (Senior Male) and Adam Hiscock (Senior Male).  Complete final qualifying standings for the year can be viewed here.

Canada Games (2019) Team NL Manager 

The NLTTA is currently looking for interested individuals to fill the role of Team Manager for the provinces Table Tennis Team and the 2019 Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alberta.  Complete information can be found here.

2017 NL Closed Provinical Championship Results

This years NL Closed Championships were originally scheduled to take place March 11 in Paradise.  However, due to events outside the NLTTA's control, the venue had to close with only a few of our events complete.  An alternate event took place two weeks later at Carbonear Collegiate to crown provincial champions.  Almost 20 players were able to make the rescheduled event on the short notice and a very competitive day of table tennis took place.  Complete results can be view here.

2017 Central Open Results

The Central Open took place at Jane Collins Academy in Hare Bay on March 4.  The tournament attracted both locals and players from a number of other clubs in the province, and by all accounts was a success.  Complete results can be viewed here.

2017 NL Closed Championships

The NLTTA's premier event will be taking place Saturday, March 11 in Paradise at the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre.  Registration must be done online here by March 4.  This will be the last tournament to earn points for provincial team selection.

2017 TC Square Invitational 

As part of the Town of Carbonear's Winter Fest, the CBN Table Tennis Club hosted the TC Square Invitational Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 18 in the Trinity Conception Mall.  This was the first time a tournament has been held in a mall in Newfoundland and Labrador and it featured 11 of the top players in the province who accepted invitations to play in the cash prize tournament.  The event was a huge success, generating significant attention and interest from mall goers who had never viewed table tennis at such a high level.  Matches throughout the day were highly competitive and entertaining.  In the end Dennis Sanchez Mora of the MUN TT Club defeated Nick Hiscock of the CBN TT Club, 3 games to 1 in an well played Championship match.

Central Open Registration Now Available Online

The NLTTA will this year be hosting the Central Open for the first time at Jane Collins Academy in Hare Bay on March 4.  To play, you must register in advance here prior to February 24.  

2016 MUN Open Results

 The 2016 MUN Open took place at the Field House on the St. John's Campus of Memorial University on Saturday, December 4.  This was the first time in many years that the MUN Open has been held and by all accounts it was a great success with nearly 50 players registering to compete, with many being first time competitors at a NLTTA event.  Results here available for viewing.   You may also view pictures taken throughout the day here.





Corner Brook Coaching Clinic

On November 19 and 20, the NLTTA hosted its second Introduction to Competition Coaching Clinic, this time at Corner Brook Regional High School.  Six candidates completed the course that was delivered by NCCP Certified Coach Brian Ash.  There is the possibility of this course being offered at additional locations in the new year.  Keep an eye to this website for further information or contact [email protected] if you are interested. 

MUN Open Registration Available Online Now

For the first time in many years, the NLTTA will be hosting the MUN Open at the Field House at Memorial University in St. John's on December 3.  Register online here.  The deadline is November 28.  

2016 Eastern Open

The 2016 Eastern Open took place Saturday, November 5 in Paradise.  Over 30 competitors from across the province took part in a fun and competitive event.  For a list of results click here

2016 Western Open

On the weekend of October 29 the Western Open took place in Pasadena at the new recreation centre.  This was the first time in a number of years that the Western Open was held and it turned out to be a successful return to the NLTTA calendar.  For a list of results click here.

Coaching Clinic 

On the weekend of October 22-23, four candidates completed the Introduction to Competition Coaching Clinic in Bay Roberts.  The course was conducted by NCCP certified instructor Brian Ash and was offered free of charge by the NLTTA to interested candidates.  A second clinic is being held in Corner Brook on the weekend of November 19-20.  If you are interested in participating contact [email protected]

Referee Seminar 

Congratulations are extended to all participants in the recent weekend course. Six candidates attended the course that was offered by Joe Fisher of Table Tennis Canada in Carbonear on the weekend of September 16-18. The six candidates were all successful with the “B” level certification. They will continue on acquiring full certification after the submission of their “draw” and the completion of the Provincial Umpire Exam.
